Christians and Coffee

You’ll see in this passage how we as Christian are very similar to our morning cup of coffee. How we wouldn’t ever prefer our coffee to be is how we shouldn’t be as Christian’s either.
We all have our own preferences with our coffee if you drink it. Some like it black, some like it with cream, some with sugar and some with a combination of both. But there are a few ways we do not want our coffee.
Weak, we do not want a weak cup of coffee in the morning, it’s not going to do the trick. We want it to be strong and hearty and fulfilling. Just the same, when we are weak Christians, we lack in our faith, it hinders our ability to be a good witness for Christ and it shows in our countenance. We should be strong in the Lord, we will have a brighter countenance and a stronger ability to witness to others. We need to be grounded in God’s word to be the strong Christians God wants us to be.

Another way we don’t want our coffee is Bitter. You want it to be smooth and refreshing. The last thing you want in the morning is something distasteful. Not a good way to start your morning. We shouldn’t be Bitter Christians either. It doesn’t leave a good taste in anyone’s mouth, the aroma of bitterness is very off-putting and effects everyone around you. No matter how much cream and sugar you put in your coffee, if it’s bitter that taste is still going to be there, you can’t cover it up. No matter how many good deeds you do as a Christian, no matter what you try to add to your life and your walk with the Lord, it will all continue to be bitter until you let it go and start over fresh with forgiveness from the Lord for your bitterness.

How about a Stale cup of coffee? Those are the worst. The dictionary describes stale as “tasteless and unpalatable from age” Are we stale Christians? Have we become complacent in our walk with the Lord? It’s so easy to fall into a routine. Get up and go to church on Sunday Morning, evening, participate in the choir, teach a class, prayer meetings and classes on Wednesday evenings etc. It can be a great part of our life if we let it or we can let it drag us down to the point to where we are no longer going to church because we’re excited but yet we’re going because of routine. So my question is this, How is your cup of coffee this morning? Bitter, weak, stale, cold? We can all start over with a fresh cup if we begin our day walking with the Lord, reading his word and once again getting excited for our ability to be in church.
